We know paperwork isn’t the most exciting part of joining the K9 Off-Leash Network, so we want to be clear and positive about why we’re collecting these details. As a digital platform operating in Canada, we are required to collect specific profile information from our Hosts to stay in line with national regulations.
Why We’re Asking for This Information
As part of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) digital platform reporting requirements, platforms like ours must collect verified details from Hosts. This includes:
Legal Names: Your first and last legal names.
Tax Identification: Your Social Insurance Number (SIN) for individuals or Business Number (BIN) for registered businesses.
Business Details: Your business name (if applicable) and jurisdiction TIN.
Verified Address: Your primary residential or business address, including city, province, and postal code.
The CRA introduced these rules to ensure transparency and consistency across all digital platforms in Canada.
The Good News
You’re in Control: Once provided, your information is securely stored and used only to meet CRA compliance requirements.
Keeping Things Simple: Collecting this upfront prevents surprises later and ensures smooth reporting for your hosting income.
Building Trust: Guests and Hosts alike can feel confident knowing the platform is fully compliant and operating with integrity.
You must identify as either an Individual Seller or a Business Seller. If you don’t have a business number, you’re an Individual Seller.

Individual Seller
Definition: You are hosting as a private person. This typically applies if you are a casual host, a freelancer, or a gig worker who has not formally registered a business or incorporated.
- Tax ID: Use your Social Insurance Number (SIN).
- Jurisdiction of Issuance: CA (if issued by Canada), US (if issued by the United States)(if issued by another country, use the country code)
- Legal Name: Must match your government-issued ID (First and Last name).
- Address: Your primary residential home address.
- Date of Birth: Required for individual verification.

Business Seller
Definition: You are hosting as an Entity. This applies if you have registered a business, formed a partnership, or incorporated. If the CRA has issued you a 9-digit Business Number for your hosting activities, you are a Business Seller.
- Tax ID: Use your 9-digit Business Number (BN).
- Business Registration Number (BRN): If you are an incorporated entity, provide your formal registration number.
- Jurisdiction of Issuance: *CA (if registered in Canada), US (if registered in the United States)(if registered in another country, use the country code)
- Legal Name: The official registered business name (e.g., "Maple Leaf Rentals Ltd.") rather than your personal name.
- Address: The registered business address or principal place of business.

Pro Tip: Accurate Data Saves Time Ensure the name and TIN you provide match your official tax records exactly. This prevents the CRA from flagging your account for a mismatch, which could require extra paperwork down the road!
We understand this may feel like "extra admin," but it’s really about keeping everything above board so you can focus on what matters most—welcoming dogs and their humans to safe, joyful spaces. For more details, you can visit the CRA's official page on Reporting Rules for Digital Platforms.
